
Michael Carter-Williams Shines in Debut on Broad Street Brawl
Michael Carter-Williams made a successful amateur boxing debut on Thursday night at Uprising Promotions’ Broad Street Brawl.
Uprising Promotions officially returns to the ring tonight when it hosts Broad Street Brawl at the Léman Ballroom in New York City. Doors for the show open at 6 PM, with the first bell scheduled to ring at 7 PM.
Featuring an exciting mix of boxing and entertainment, Broad Street Brawl will be headlined by the amateur boxing debut of former NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams, and the card will also feature a live performance from rising music star Yung Wylin’. The action-packed event will raise funds for Bigvision Community, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young adults in recovery from substance abuse.

As mentioned, former NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams is set to make his amateur boxing debut at Broad Street Brawl. A standout guard from Syracuse University and the 11th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, Carter-Williams made an immediate impact in the league. He earned 2013–14 NBA Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game for the Sixers during his rookie season. Notably, he nearly achieved a quadruple-double in his NBA debut, recording 22 points, 12 assists, nine steals and seven rebounds against the Miami Heat.
After a decade-long professional basketball career, Carter-Williams has since turned his focus to a variety of new business endeavors, and he has also begun work as a college basketball analyst for ESPN. With his competitive spirit still inspiring him to find new challenges, Carter-Williams started boxing and is now set to make his amateur debut when Uprising Promotions returns to action this evening.
Presented by Uprising Promotions in association with HIIT the Deck Boxing Gym and Bigvision Community, Broad Street Brawl features a variety of amateur bouts, with Carter-Williams’ debut being a key highlight of the evening. Based in New York City, Uprising Promotions was founded in 2013 by former professional boxer Ronson Frank, who retired as an undefeated light heavyweight following a 17-fight career.
